September  1st – Calendar Adjustment Day

ON this date in 1751 there was rioting in the streets in Britain  The British Calendar Act (and remember at that time Britain was the center of the universe) determined that there would be a switch from the currently used Julian Calendar of the day to the Gregorian calendar that we use today.  In order to do that 11 days had to be dropped from the calendar.  It was decided those days would be dropped the night of Sept.2nd, making the next day Sept. 14.  Not a popular date with the Brits but it happened and the change has stayed with us which by the way makes “New Year’s Day, Jan. 1st instead of March 23rd.

Since I seldom know what day it is anyway I thought this would be a good day to buy a new calendar for 2015.

*Contest:  Send me a unique way you think would be fun to celebrate this day. I will choose the best answer and send you a calendar as well !  Entries must be received before September 1, 2014.
